Dear Kindred Community,

Our Community Wildlife Habitat Team's most exciting news is that we are partnering with Kirkland Library for a presentation March 2nd on attracting native pollinators! Read on...

1. Attracting Native Pollinators: Garden and Habitat Restoration

Declining numbers of native pollinators are cause for concern. Fortunately, we can help! Pollinators are essential for much life on Earth and the more we can learn about them the better it will be for us and them.

You are warmly invited to attend our presentation by Julie O'Donald on how to entice native pollinators to your yard, open space, or balcony.

Date and Time: Saturday March 2, at 1:00 pm
Place: Kirkland Library, 308 Kirkland Avenue
https://kcls.bibliocommons.com/events/65b8119ad20c652a4a0c0c98
Admission is free and all are welcome.

Julie O'Donald is a skillful Community Habitat Steward and Master Gardener who delivers excellent presentations on sustainable gardening practices with an emphasis on the importance of including native plants. Her fabulous garden (not far from Kirkland) has been featured in several publications, including Pacific Horticulture, The Butterfly Gardener, Bird Watching Magazine, and Sunset Magazine.

Featuring photos from her garden, Julie will describe how to create a garden where pollinators thrive, including nesting sites. She'll discuss creative ways to incorporate flowering shrubs and wildflowers into a yard or landscape. Find out about ways you can encourage pollinators.

Attached is a flyer for you to send electronically or print out and place at work or in a public place. Please help us to spread the word about our presentation.

2. Natural Yard Care with an Emphasis on Native Plants

Photos of Julie O'Donald's garden are featured in a City of Kirkland publication! Public Works produced an excellent Do-It-Yourself Native Landscaping Guide, which includes photos of Julie's garden. You can download a copy for yourself or printed copies are available on request.

Use this guide as a resource to help you plan and install native landscaping for your yard or open space. Several steps are listed and described.

By attending our March 2nd presentation, you'll learn from Julie, and meet her in person 😊

3. Timely Seattle Times Article on Attracting Pollinators with Native Plants

This topic is gaining in popularity.

Here's a link to a recent (January 24th) Seattle Times article with many photos to make us (and pollinators) look forward to colorful blooms from native plants:
